Few strokes rose

After yesterday's painting I wanted to hit the ground running and paint a rose in as few strokes as possible. Looking for value shapes and leaving the brightest  whites white.
I can say this is not a wimpy watercolor and that was one of the goals for today.
What I have learned so far:
The dark shadows are not as dark as they appear in the photograph.
Use the biggest brush possible, establish value shapes. Move on .

  1. Jo, What an inspiration. I cannot paint a rose and I am amazed at the way you have captured this with watercolors!!!! Beautiful. I love the white showing through.

    1. Rose are still elusive for me. But I plan on never giving up . My next plan is to pull back on paint more foliage to get the depth I desire.
